TACKLE is the overarching organisation that brings together the 150+ small groups throughout the UK who offer support to those men and their families suffering from or have suffered from Prostate Cancer. Each month an online meeting is held and discussion are held on all aspects of news and treatments for this disease.
Each month a roundup of news items is published to keep members informed under the title Hot Topics. This is the link to the February 2026 edition.
35 attendees today, with a bit of a twist, one attendee was in Tulsa Oklahoma and another from Costa Rica. Some people will do anything to avoid the British weather! After the introductions the theme of the meeting was having three members talking about setting up new groups and sharing their experiences. The groups in question are at Morpeth, Northumberland, Macclesfield, near Manchester and Stamford near Peterborough.
Each group leader was given 10 minutes to talk about:
- Start Date
- The time taken to set up their group
- Why?
- What helped them in setting up their group
- What roadblocks di they encounter
- What helps now
- What has been the best moment.
Followed by a Q&A.
The presentations were all different and original, but all seemed to mirror each other with there not being an available group locally and the presenters seeing the need from their personal experiences. Shared themes were also – trying to gain interest, to encourage participation and to find a suitable venue. All are very new groups with two having their first meeting in January (4 and 12 attendees) and the last having a first meeting on the 18th of February.
Shared experiences from and to members included the importance of including partners and trying to run the group as a peer led group rather than relying on the usual suspects to do all the work.
Virtual Support Group For Working Aged Men
A group called ‘The Dodgy Walnut’ are setting up online Zoom meeting for those newly diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and are still working and will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The first meeting will be on the 11 February at 7PM.
